We are absolutely delighted to announce that Paula Greenlees’ wonderful debut novel The Rain Tree has been snapped up by the Cornerstone imprint Arrow. UK and Commonwealth rights were acquired for two books by Sonny Marr from Caroline Hardman. The ebook is set to be released first, with the paperback original to follow in spring 2021.
Set in Singapore in the years following the Second World War, the novel follows Miranda a bereaved mother who has recently left England behind and is struggling to come to terms with her loss. Feeling distant from her husband and without purpose, Miranda is adrift in her new surroundings, until an encounter with a British medic leads her to a surprising vocation and to independence. What follows is a tale of friendship, hope, and love, set against the gloriously realised, vibrant landscape of post-war Singapore.
Sonny Marr said: “The Rain Tree is a book that takes your breath away. A sweeping historical novel about stolen glances, second chances and matters of the heart. Miranda’s story is deeply moving and beautifully told, and the pin-sharp realisation of the post-war Singapore setting is utterly intoxicating. Paula Greenlees is a startling new talent and we are thrilled to be welcoming her to Arrow.”
Paula added: “I can’t wait for readers to journey with Miranda to post-war Singapore and relish a story of loss, longing and self-discovery – all set against a background of dramatic political upheaval. I’m absolutely thrilled to have my debut novel published on the Arrow list.”
