Rebecca Wait’s I’M SORRY YOU FEEL THAT WAY was shortlisted for the Nota Bene Prize 2023.

The Nota Bene Prize celebrates influential fiction, focusing on thought-provoking and relatable books that have received ‘organic word-of-mouth recognition’. With Wait’s previous book, OUR FATHERS, being a Waterstones Book of the Month, it was great to see her being shortlisted for the Nota Bene Prize for her latest novel.

I’M SORRY YOU FEEL THAT WAY is a domestic comedy centred around a somewhat dysfunctional family, featuring complex mental health struggles and delicate sibling relationships. Wait’s fourth novel was described as ‘a masterclass in familial tensions, told with razor-sharp dialogue, wit and emotional insight’ in The Observer. It was shortlisted along titles such as YOUNG MUNGO by Douglas Stuart and WHEN I SING, MOUNTAINS DANCE by Irene Sola.
